The Murray family papers contain correspondence relating to different periods of family history: T.A. Murray's letters re his pastoral holdings, letters from Agnes, Lady Murray to her son Gilbert; Hubert Murray's letters to his brother, Gilbert, during his administration in Papua and other family letters. There are also notebooks, diaries, scrapbooks, photographs, press clippings, a volume of Professor Murray's working notes, manuscript and typescript, on classical texts and international affairs.

Terence Aubrey Murray (1810-1873) came to Australia from Ireland and took up land in the Canberra district. He owned Yarrowlumla, which is now Government House in Canberra, held office in the N.S.W. Legislative Assembly and was knighted in 1869. His son, George Gilbert Aime Murray (1866-1957) was Professor of Greek at Glasgow and Oxford, Chairman of the League of Nations (1922-1938) and helped found the United Nations Association. Hubert Murray (1861-1940) was Lt. Gov. of Papua (1908-1940). ...
